A Look back at the 40th Anniversary Celebration & Fundraiser
First of all, a heart-felt thank you to each of you that came out last Saturday and made our 40th Celebration a success!! Without your interest and generous donations, this big day would have fallen very flat. A special thank you to each of the food vendors who went above and beyond; donating their time and supplies to feed the multitudes! A special thanks also to our auctioneers, Morris Yoder and Vince Koehn who did a wonderful job of keeping the bids coming, and to all of our singers; the singing was awe-inspiring. This list of thank you’s wouldn’t be complete without mentioning all those who donated items for the auction, including those prized meal tickets! Saturday was simply gorgeous – a gift from God! It was amazing to see all the people gather; enjoying the good food, fellowship, auction, and singing. We have been asked numerous times how many people were here, but we really have no way of knowing; our best guess is 1500 – 1800! Don Schmidt (the fish fryer) said he served 500 people, Dennis Unruh grilled around 1400 hamburgers, 70 gallons of homemade ice cream were made by Daryl Unruh, John Smith, Dale Ensz & Lavern Nikkel. Jared & Cindy Ratzlaff provided 300 homemade donuts and donut holes, and 3,600 funnel cake sticks were fried by Wendell Wadel. Pete Wedel popped around 55 pounds of popcorn to make kettle corn. 90 gallons of Lemonade, over 100 gallons of tea, and around a 1,000 bottles of water washed it all down. WOW! That is a lot of food and drink consumed! At the end of the day, when all the excitement had died down and the crowd had left, we started counting the money. We were absolutely blown away when we realized how much it was all adding up to! To date, the proceeds from the day is right around $106,000.00!!! That is simply amazing and we deeply appreciate it. Some of you have asked for a list of auction items and how much they brought; I am including an abbreviated one below. Thank you again!
